Learning
Teaching about God and Jesus Christ is one of
the main functions of St. James. From regular Sunday sermons to
Sunday Church School, passing on the knowledge and wisdom we have
gained to our children and neighbors is vital to the life and health
of Christ's Church on Earth.
Come in...you are invited.

Sunday Church School
Sunday Church School seeks to provide our children with a firm
understanding of the Bible (especially the gospels), the history of
the Christian Church on Earth, and how the lessons of the church
apply to their lives. Through instruction and special events such as
Rally Day and the SCS Christmas Program, the SCS program seeks to
engage young minds and help them in their spiritual growth.
SCS is held every Sunday at St. James at 9:40 a.m. September through
May for children age three through eighth grade.
The Sunday School
Curriculum is run in three separate programs:
Preschool--Children
3 years-old by September 1st through those in 4 year-old preschool
use a Bible based curriculum and have their class in a
self-contained classroom.
Kindergarten-6th
grade Students--These children use a rotational
curriculum. They learn Bible stories rotating through the
following stations: story, drama, art, cooking, science, video
games, etc... Students, kept in groups by age, are engaged in
age appropriate activities at each station.
7th
and 8th Grade Students--These students learn from the Bible to
live the Good News. Every session has three goals: know, grow,
show. These goals carry out the theme and broaden both
teachers' and learners' understanding of the story.

and discussed. Other topics have included social services within
Lake County, Project Build in South Africa, and a series on the
Lord's Prayer. Come join us to enhance your spiritual growth and

Christian Education Committee
This committee oversees the conduct and promotion of the schools and
the educational activities of all organizations within the
congregation. It encourages the use of teaching and worship
materials published or approved by the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America, and seeks to introduce the church's periodicals and
books of family devotion into the homes of the congregation. One of
the primary aims of the committee is to bring the call to the
ministry of the Gospel and to other full-time church vocations to
the attention of qualified youth of the congregation. Preparation
for First Communion and Confirmation are areas of specific concern
for Christian Education, as well as Youth Ministry, Sunday School,
Vacation Bible School, and Adult Education.
