What it means to be a Christian.
Hallie Bodine
I believe that being a Christian is about using what you learn in church and from reading the Bible in order to behave and act, following the commandments that God has taught us. I also believe it is serving others, loving others the way God loves us and being able to forgive. I think it is important to want to learn more about God and be an example of living out the lessons I have learned in church, Sunday school, confirmation, communion, and baptism.
Being a Christian is learning from Jesus, and trying to act like Him even when it is difficult. I have learned how to live as a Christian because of His patience, forgiveness, kindness, humility and acceptance. It is important to me to follow Him by loving others the way He loves me. He loves unconditionally, and is accepting of everyone.
I am grateful to have started learning about being a Christian from a young age. I was fortunate to be able to attend Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School when we lived in Chicago. I made many friends who shared the same beliefs as me, and to this day, they are more like family than friends. I think being a Christian also means that we are all part of the family of God and it is important to take care of others and put others first. I want to continue to help and serve others because I know that this is what God asks of us.
Overall, learning to be a Christian has helped me in my life to be accepting and understanding of other people and appreciate all of our own unique differences. It has helped me to treat others kind and with respect, the way Jesus treats others. As a Christian, I remember to “treat other people the way I would like to be treated” which is also known as the golden rule. It has taught me to be loving, forgiving, and humble just like Jesus. Finally, being a Christian has taught me the importance of learning from my mistakes, because I know I can be forgiven. I also know that it is important for me to be able to forgive others, the way Jesus forgives me.

I wasn't very happy about writing an essay about what it means to be a Christian. But after talking to my mom and dad and Pastor Amy, for me being a Christian is all about being a member of St. James and my church family.
I can't remember a time I was not in Sunday School. We had arts and crafts for science , sometimes we watched a movie. I remember my dad, Mr. Gerber, Mrs. Mckayle, and Mr. Jim Davoux. I also met Sophia Volker who is one of my very good friends even though we are very different. It shows that being a Christian can mean being friends with people who are very different from you.
I couldn't talk about my life at Saint James without talking about Mrs. Wiegers. She did children's choir, the pageant, and she always gave us cookies and goody bags. She shows that being a Christian involves being patient, giving, and kind.
Confirmation class has been a big part of my Christian Journey. I've had three pastors during Confirmation class and they all were very different. Pastor Holmer was nice but a little strict, probably because Sophia and I were talking and giggling. Pastor Mark was so patient and nice. Pastor Amy is a girl which is great and she is super fun. You can even have different pastors in being a Christain.
Even though I am done with my essay I am not done being a Christain. I want to thank you all for helping me learn about being a Christain. Bless you all!!!

Deuteronomy is defined by us loving god will all our heart, soul and strength. That is what I think a good christian does. When I was little I thought it was silly to give all of our love to somebody I had never met, never had seen and never felt their presence. What did they do for me and for my family? But then I realized that every single thing that I have done or accomplished, God has been with me every step of the way. The time I passed my swimming test at the YMCA, god was with me. The first time I scored a goal in soccer, God was with me. Even at my lowest moments, God was with me. When I was in a fight with one of my best friends, he was there.
In conclusion, God is with us all the time. He is with us from the moment we are born and until the very end.

Being a Christian means having a close relationship with God. When I’m at church, I feel at ease. Being at St. James Lutheran Church has helped me get a better understanding for a better future.
I don’t feel lost or left out in any way from this church. If I wasn’t a Christian, I would feel lost in life. Supporting each other and helping to build off one another is what brings me joy when I walk into this church every Sunday. It is this church that helps me to try and see the better in people. It is this church that helps to bring a smile to the faces of ones in need. We, as a community, try to do what we think God would do like when we host Give 5 for Need, help with the program PADS, donate to people who need food and many more. We don’t just help each other from within the church, we try to help as many people whether they are struggling or need support.
Going to church has helped me find myself as a person who can forgive, forget, make mistakes, but most of all, stay faithful to God.
To me, that’s what it means to be a Christian.
